Care Certificate Standard 8 focuses on ensuring individuals in care receive appropriate hydration, nutrition and safe food. It equips care workers with the knowledge and skills to support people’s dietary needs in a safe, person-centred way while understanding the importance of food hygiene and following care plans.

This standard helps care staff understand the principles of hydration, nutrition and food safety, how to support access to fluids and food according to an individual’s plan of care, and how to meet their nutritional needs with dignity and respect. It also covers recognising signs of dehydration and poor nutrition, and reporting concerns appropriately.
